You are skiing down a mountain with a vertical height of 1150 feet. The distance from the top of the mountain to the base is 2300 feet. What is the angle of elevation from the base to the top of the mountain?

1150/2300=1/2
angle = tan^-1(1/2)= about 26.565 degrees
use a calculator with trig functions
use the inverse tan key
tan26.565 = 1/2= opposite side over the adjacent side = height of the mountain divided by the base = 1150/2300
