1.Which equation represents a line through (3,1) and parallel to y=-2x-9
2.Segment AB has endpoints with coordinates A(1,2) and B(5,10). In simplest radical form,find the length of AB.
*All work must be shown
1.The vertex of an isosceles triangle is 12 less than twice the base angles.What is the measure of the vertex angle?

- Equation of the line through (3,1) parallel to y=-2x-9..
The line we are seeking will have slope of -2, because parallel lines have the same slope.
y=-2x+b
Substituting the point (3,1): 1=-2(3) + b
1=-6+b
b=7
Final answer: y=-2x+7
2. Find the length of the segment from (1,2) to (5,10)
Use the distance formula d = SQR((x2 - x1)2 + (y2-y1)2)
d=SQR((5-1)2+(10-2)2) = SQR(42+82) = SQR(16+64) = SQR(80)
SQR(80) = SQR(16*5) = 4SQR(5)
- The vertex angle of an isosceles triangle is 12 less than 2 times a base angle. Find the measure
of the vertex angle.
The angles are x, and x, and 2x-12. They add up to 180.
x+x+2x-12=180 4x-12=180 4x=192 x = 48.
The angles are 48, 48, and 84 degrees.
The vertex angle is 84 degrees.
2 Where will the perpendicular bisector intersect the segment from (-5,-3) to (5,-8)?
Any bisector will intersect at the midpoint. To find the midpoint, average the x and y coordinates of
the endpoints . The midpoint is (0, -5.5)
