difference of average rates of change

Q.Given the tables below, what is the difference between the average rates of change over the interval [1,4]?

h(x) average rate I solved is 2

j(x) average rate I solved is -2

Then, it can be solved the difference in 2 ways like this:

2-(-2)=4 OR -2-2= -4

4 is correct or -4 is correct?

I think the word difference here means more how are they different rather than the result of a subtraction.

The differece between the two is the average rate of change for h(x) increases whereas the aveerage rater of change for g(x) decreases.

It is an problem with English/Mathematics vocabulary.
