Assuming the original sample was a mixture of KCl and KClO3, the liquid observed upon heating would have been liquid KClO3 which has a lower melting point than KCl. With continued heating, the liquid KClO3 would decompose to KCl and O2 gas and so the liquid would disappear turning into solid KCl and the oxygen gas would go into the atmosphere.
