side + side + side = Perimeter : So, (3 + 7 + s = 17) ; Then, (17- 3- 7= 7); The length of the missing side is 7. To explain, the perimeter is the total length measured around of the outermost of something, i.e., like the fence of a yard. You are already given two sides and are one missing one because you know it is a triangle. You just need to subtract the known lengths from the total. I hope that helps!
