Autism and Destruction

Question

How do you help a child that has Autism and has a lack of impulse control that leads to destruction. I feel like I have tried and nothing works completely.

I would also add that giving your child a choice gives them "control" over a request or task. Understanding the "trigger" of your child helps me better guide you with solutions to support you and your child. Without knowing more about the situation, it is hard to just jump right in, but my first suggestion is to increase the level of structure and predictability for the child. However, it is important to identify what is triggering the destruction and happens immediately following the destruction. No child likes to feel out of control, and destructive behavior is communication, as is any behavior. Is the child verbal? How do they get their wants and needs met?
