What are the CEC Standards?

CEC is the Council of Exceptional Students. These Standards are for the initial practitioner knowledge and skills in Developmental Disabilities and Autism. There are 8 standards,

1. ICC1K5: Issues in definition and identification of individuals with exceptional learning needs, including those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
2. DD1K1: Definitions and issues related to the identification of individuals with developmental disabilities.
3. DD2K2: Psychological, social/emotional, and motor characteristics of individuals with developmental disabilities.
4. DD2K3: Identification of significant core deficit areas for individuals with pervasive developmental disabilities, autism, and autism spectrum disorder.
5. ICC8S1: Gather relevant background information.
6. ICC8S6: Use assessment information in making eligibility, program, and placement decisions for individuals with exceptional learning needs, including those from culturally and/or linguistically diverse backgrounds.
7. ICC10S2: Collaborate with families and others in assessment of individuals with exceptional learning needs.
8. ICC10S4: Assist individuals with exceptional needs and their families in becoming active participants in the educational team.
