4x-3y=8
x+6y=5
x=5-6y
4(5-6y)-3y=8
-27y=8 -20= -12
y=12/27= 4/9
x=5-6(4/9)=21/9=7/3
x=7/3, y=4/9
4(7/3)-3(4/9)
= 38/3+12/9
=28/3-4/3 =24/3 = 8

4x - y = 2y + 8 combine the y's
4x - 3y = 8
x + 6y = 5 Need adjust 2nd eqn so can elim x term
-4(x + 6y = 5) → -4x - 24y = -20
4x - 3y = 8
-4x - 24y = -20 Add them
-27y = -12 y = 12/27 Substitute 12/27 for y into either original eqn to find x.
Could also use substitution: x = 5 - 6y → 4(5 - 6y) - y = 2y + 8
20 - 24y - y = 2y + 8
-27y = -12
y = 12/27
