Let "x" represent the measure of "the angle", then the complement to the angle is "90 - x" and 12 more than five times the angle is 5x + 12 so:
90 - x = 5x + 12 subtracting 12 from both sides gives:
78 - x = 5x and adding "x" to both sides gives:
78 = 6x then dividing both sides by 6 gives:
13 = x
So, the angle is 13° and its complement is 90° - 13° = 77°
