When most students imagine a "line," they most readily imagine the abscissa--the axis extending in either direction indefinitely--inifinitely as it were. If one were to elect a particular point on this line and allow it to continue either to the imagined "left" or imagined "right" beyond this point, going on to infinity, this object, with definite start but undefined finish would constitute a RAY. This RAY could also be imagined an object that could be laid upon any geometric situation, say, set to have its initial point to lie on the circumference of a circle and extending out like a sunbeam into forever.

A ray is a part of a straight line with the initial point (it emanates from) and with no end point.
