Hi,
The question you have asked is a frequent question regarding Public Speaking.
Fear of failure (FOF) and Fear of the Unknown (FOU) is the real reason for the scare in Public Speaking. More than knowing the reasons for the fear/discomfort/holding back in Public Speaking, it is essential to understand how to perform well on stage.
I agree with the experts on practising before the final performance, but sometimes over-practising a verbal discourse might cause anxiety, forgetfulness, and stage dropping. Therefore, I suggest a few simple things before you finally present before people.
- Hone your presentation skills with small chunks of people. However uncomfortable/insignificant it might appear, come out and present in small settings.
- Use PowerPoint/some cards/graphics, etc., to keep yourself on track and get an easy striking reminder regarding what next. It avoids your digression and helps your listeners to relate and get something to see which (images are attention-seeking) and hooks them through your presentation.
- Ask them to answer small questions/engagement games to make your audience participate in the session.
- Learn storytelling: Make them relate to what you are saying,
- Most importantly, own your domain, that brings confidence in whatever you say, your body language, and
Practice the points mentioned above and see the difference.
Let me help you. Feel free to book an introductory session with me soon.

Great points and suggestions! I absolutely agree that presenting in small settings is an essential tool! Especially when that small setting is comprised of people who have your back and can both give honest feedback and genuinely encourage you.07/05/22
