Production of ammonia (NH3) from nitrogen (N2) and hydrogen (H2):
N2 + 3H2 ==> 2NH3
Dalton's Law of Partial Pressures
Total pressure of N2 + H2 = 4.0 atm = partial pressure N2 + H2
mole fraction N2 = 0.55
mole fraction H2 = 1.00 - 0.55 = 0.45
partial pressure of H2 = mol fraction H2 x total pressure
partial pressure of H2 = 0.45 x 4.0 atm
partial pressure of H2 = 1.8 atm
