Find the Area of the polygon formed when these points are connected:
A: (1,7)
B: (1,5)
C: (7,5)
D: (7,7)
Area = __ Square Units

Hi, Hidy.
If you were to plot this polygon on a coordinate plane, you would see that this polygon
is actually a rectangle. I suggest you do this and see that the rectangle has a height of
2 units and a length of 6 units. You can also find these lengths using the distance formula.
For distance between Pt. C - Pt. B .....Distance between (7,5) and (1,5) which is √[(7-1)2 + (5-5)2] = √62 = 6.
For the height, Distance between Pt. A - Pt B ... Distance between (1,7) - (1,5) which is √[(1-1)2 + (7-5)2] =√22 = 2.
Now you know that the rectangle has length 6 units and width 2 units.
You can plug it into the formula for area of a rectangle and get
A = 6 x 2 = 12 square units
