To find the length of of a segment connecting two points along the same line, in this case both lie on the 3 of the X axis we can subtract the two points from each other. (3,4) - (3,2), or (3-3,4-2) or (0,2). That tells us that the segment AB has a length of 2 along the Y axis.
Graphing it out can help us see exactly what is going on as well. Diagonal lines are a bit more work as we need to use things like the Pythagorean theorem, straight lines parallel to an axis though we can just subtract.
