When you freeze something, heat is released from the liquid and the amount of heat released is dependent on the enthalpy of fusion for that material and the mass of material being frozen.
You use the formula q = m∆Hfusion where q = heat; m = mass and ∆Hfusion = enthalpy of fusion
q = ?
m = 13.8 g x 1 mol / 82.9 g = 0.166 mols
∆Hfusion = 4.60 kJ / mol
q = (0.166 mols)(4.60 kJ/mol)
q = 0.764 kJ of heat energy released
