a triangle with the adjacent being X. 8.4 being the opposite and the hypotenuse being 5.6. The triangle is inside the circle with the top going out I need to find the value of X

Yeah, a diagram would be necessary to verify that your information provided is correct. If the adjacent is X and you already know a hypotenuse and opposite side for the same triangle, this should just be a Pythagorean Theorem problem. And agreed: the hypotenuse is definitely always the longest side of the triangle.
