Hey! Fractions are a lot of fun once you know the things to look out for in problems. This problem boils down to which is larger- 6/8 or 8/12? So how do we answer this? There are a couple of ways:
1) Find Least Common Multiple (LCM) to get a common denominator and compare. Hint: start with the larger number it saves some time. This method is often what is asked of you to do on tests.
12: 12, 24 12 x 2 = 24
8: 8 ,16, 24 8 x 3 = 24
6 x 3 = 18 8 x 2 = 16
8 x 3 = 24 12 x 2 = 24
Therefore, 6/8 is larger and Jessica sold more.
OR (the easier way)
2) Divide out the fraction (with a calculator) and compare the numbers.
6/8 is the same as 6 ÷ 8= 0.75. - This number is bigger, therefore Jessica is the one who sold the most.
8/12 is the same as 8 ÷ 12 = 0.67
