4. A baseball diamond has the shape of a square with sides 90 feet long. A runner just rounded second base and is 30 feet from third base running at a speed of 28 feet per second.

The distance to home plate is the hypotenuse of a right triangle. The distance to third base (30) and the distance from third base to home (90) are the legs of the right triangle. Use the Pythagorean Theorem to find the length of the hypotenuse:
a^2 + b^2 = c^2 where a and b are the legs and c is the hypotenuse.
In two more seconds he will have rounded third and be 26 feet beyond third or 90- 26 = 64 feet from home.
