There are many ways to do this problem. Initially, however, you would notice that "a" can never be 4 since that would give a "division by zero" and division by zero is undefined in mathematics.
One way is to multiply both sides by the common denominator which is (a - 4):
Which gives: 2a - 4(a - 4) = 4
You can now just use you regular algebra techniques to solve for "a"
