(x - 5)/(x2 - 36)
First of all you have a fraction or division statement, and the denominator cannot be zero
Secondly you can factor the denominator because it is the difference of two perfect squares
(x - 5)/(x + 6)(x - 6)
Now that the denominator is factored you can see that a value of positive or negative 6 in the denominator would result in division by zero. The statement would be undefined at x= 6 and x= -6

There seems to be a problem with the signs. When I factored the denominator (3t^2 + t - 24) I get (3t - 8)(t + 3), when I set the factors equal to zero I get t = -3 and t = 8/3 as the values that would cause division by zero making the fraction undefined. Thanks so much for getting back to me. Your effort only had a minor error so keep up the good work. Do remember to check any values you get for t inside your factors to see if they generate 0; such as t = -3 inside the factor (t + 3) give (-3 + 3) and is zero.
