Give the most precise classification for the figure.


A quadrilateral with one pair of adjacent sides marked as congruent. The diagonals are drawn in and are perpendicular. The two parts of one of the diagonals are marked as congruent.

Actually, it doesn't have to be a square, because the two diagonals are not necessarily congruent.

In geometry, we cannot judge shapes just by how they look. We have to use only what is explicitly given to us. In this figure, the two diagonals may not be the same length. And just because two lines look parallel does not mean they are actually parallel.

Square is more precise, but is not correct because the diagonals are not the same length. In this case, the lines are parallel and you can show that they are parallel by using similar triangles, but not simply because they look parallel.

Also, a rhombus is a quadrilateral with four congruent sides and two pairs of parallel opposite sides.
