If KL = 3x, LM = 9, and KM = 4x, what is KL?

I'm going to GUESS that your problem looks like this:


If it does, then the Segment Addition Postulate says that the length of segment KL added to the length of segment LM equals the length of segment KM.


So 3x + 9 = 4x

If you subtract 3x from both sides you get 9 = x


If x = 9, then 3x = 27 so KL is 27 units long.
