To find the height after 3 seconds using the equation given, plug in the value given for t
h=-16(3)2+200
h=56 ft

asked 02/10/22A bungee jumper dives from a platform. The function ℎ = −16𝑡 2 + 200 gives her approximate height h in feet after t seconds. What will be the jumper’s height after 3 seconds?

Math, microeconomics or criminal justice
h(t) = -16t^2 + 200
200 is the initial height = the height of the platform
minimum height is zero, when he touches the ground,
when 16t^2 = 200
t^2 = 200/16
t = (10/4)sqr2 = (5/2)sqr2
t = about 2.5(1.414) = 3.54 seconds
in 3 seconds h(3) = -16(3)^2 +200 = -16(9)+200
= 200-144= 56 feet from the ground
in about half a second more, he just touches the ground
actually using this distance formula would have the bungee jumper going even lower, into the ground, into a hole, hitting the ground or water at a velocity of h'(3) =-32(3) = 96 feet per second. the formula really doesn't describe how an actual bungee jump works. the bungee cord should slow down the descent with zero velocity at the bottom, but the formula has the opposite, with velocity increasing.
