The sides of a square are 8 cm long with a vertex of the square is at (-3,1). What points could also be a vertex of the square?
1 Expert Answer
1) Draw yourself a coordinate grid.
2) Put a point at (-3,1). Label it point A.
3) From A go up 8 units and place another point. Call it point B.
4) From B, go right 8 units, place a point and call it C.
5) Finally, from C, go down 8 units, place a point and call it D.
ABCD is a square with side lengths of 8. Points B, C, and D are other vertices. You can make other squares; in fact, you can make an infinite number. In step 3, instead of going up 8 units to point B, try going left 8 units to B. Can you find points the new points C and D?
