To solve this question,we will use law of sine
Given a right triangle, we have hypotenuse =170 yds and the opposite angle is 90. Then we have an incline which is opposite on the sides of the legs. The vertical drop is essentially the height of the triangle, which is the side opposite the degree=42 degrees. Denote V=vertical drop, A=Length of slope (aka hypotenuse) and v=angle of incline and a=angle opposite slope (which is 90)
Therefore we can use the formula [sin(v) / V] = [sin(a) / A]
which is also V = A * [sin(v) / sin(a)]
Which is equal to V= 170* [sin (42) / sin(90)].
