Bradford T.: I disagree. x is the distance from the point of observation to the base of the mountain. What is the linear distance from the base of the mountain to the peak? Or did you assume that the peak is perpendicular to the base of the mountain?

The way the problem was stated, yes I did. Otherwise the slant height from the base to the top of the mountain and the horizontal distance from the base to the center of the mountain would be needed, but were not given.
