Many individuals underrepresented and negatively impacted are the Native Americans and African Americans. These individuals are not represented in older publications of science as there was a bias against these groups of individuals. Almost all studies before the 1950s were done with Caucasian patients. Therefore, it is hard to diagnose individuals of the marginalized groups as their genetic makeup is different and diseases impact them differently than the Caucasian population. Additionally, the African American population was negatively impacted in the Tuskegee study. These individuals were injected with syphilis without their knowledge and the researchers allowed them to pass-away so they could visualize the negative impacts on the body of the disease.
