My friend and I are sharing a candy bar I got 1/4 of the candy bar and my friend Abby got 1/4 of it how much is left explain your answer

1 - 1/4 - 1/4 = 1 - 1/2 = 1/2 of the candy bar left

Unless you might have meant that you got 1/4, then your friend got 1/4 of what was left

1-1/4 = 3/4. 1/4 x 3/4 = 3/16.

then

1 - 1/4 - 3/16 = 1- 7/16 = 9/16 of the bar left

but the way you wrote it, 1/2 looks like the correct answer
