1/4 of 2/3 bottles of paint

Ms. Ito's art class used 2/3 of a bottle of blue paint. If they used 1/4 as much red paint as blue paint, how many bottles of red paint did they use?

In this question you are given the amount of blue paint used and an an amount of red paint used as a fraction of blue paint. This question would not be so confusing if Ms. Ito's class used a full bottle of blue paint. Then 1/4 of that would simply be:

1 * 1/4 = (1 * 1) / (1 * 4) =  1/4th.

Using this logic but replacing the full bottle with 2/3rds of a bottle we get:

 

2/3 * 1/4 = (2 * 1) / (3 * 4) = 2/12 = 1/6
