Laptops combo jack microphone dont work

Hi. I just bought a new HP laptop and it has Combo Jack in it instead of "old" separate mic and audio jack. So i decided to buy an adapter to it. And now when i have plugged my headphones to it, it uses my laptops internal mic instead of my headphone's mic... Could someone help?. Ps. Sorry for my english :)

I have found that USB headsets seem to work better than the combo setup.

 

But you can try right clicking on the speakers icon near the clock and select recording devices. There may be another input device you can choose there.
