asked 01/13/22if AC=14,find the value of x.then find ab bc
1 Expert Answer
AC = 14
AB + BC = AC = 14
Typical problems like this will give AB and BC in terms of x, such as AB = 2x + 3 and BC= 6x -5
then 2x+3 + 6x-5= 14
8x =14+5-3= 16
x=16/8 =2
x=2
then plug that x value into 2x+3 to get 2(2)+3 = 7=AB and 6x-5 = 6(2)-5 = 12-5 = 7
AB=7, BC =7, 7+7 = 14
B is the midpoint between A and C
that's the general method. If you have different values of AB and BC in terms of x, still follow the same method. Generally, B won't be the midpoint though.
