A wheel with diameter 25 in. is rotating 11°/sec. Find the linear speed and round to 3 decimal places.
How would I solve this?
The wheel must move along a surface in order to have a linear speed.
The rate of rotation is 11°/sec. What speed is that along the surface?
Well, the definition of Π is (circumference of circle) / (diameter of circle). So, C = Πd
C = 3.1415926*25" = 78.539815" and a full turn [that is, circumference) is 360º
The wheel moves at 11º/sec.
(11º/sec)*1
(11º/sec)*(78.539815' / 360º)
2.400"/sec

circumference is Πd and d=25, so r=25/201/13/22
