a)
(2x + 3)2 - (x - 4)(3x + 1) = 4x2 +12x + 9 - (3x2 +x - 12x - 4) =
= 4x2 +12x + 9 - 3x2 -x + 12x + 4 = x2 + 23x + 13
b) You need to be more accurate in writing this problem, because it could be interpreted in many ways. Try to use parenthesis to clarify it.

For a), I can see where simplification can occur but for b), are there supposed to be parentheses to aid us tutors in which terms can be simplified? In b's current state, I can't quite tell what needs simplified or not. Does the square root extend over the x and y terms? Express that with parentheses that reach for whatever terms it does on your prompt, please. Thanks!12/13/21
