Ellis is painting wooden fenceposts before putting them in his yard. They are each 7 feet tall and have a diameter of 1 foot. There are 11 fenceposts in all. How much paint will Ellis need to paint all the surfaces of the 11 fenceposts? Use 3.14 for π, and round your answer to the nearest hundredth.

What you need is the shape and dimensions. Since you have height and diameter, the fence posts should be cylinders, and you have seven of them.
Remember the surface area of the cylinders is 2πr2 +2πrh where r and h are given in the problem.
The first term represents the flat circles at the top and base and the second is the area of the curved surface.

You wouldn't be painting the bottom, as it would be in the ground, so it should only be pi r h rather than 2 pi r h in the formula12/09/21
