Does mixing vinegar and baking soda create a mechanical mixture or is a solution, if so, is it a synthesis reaction?

Vinegar is a solution of acetic acid = CH₃COOH

Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate = NaHCO₃

When these are mixed together, a chemical reaction takes place, and it would be considered a solution. The type of reaction could also be considered a synthesis reaction because several products are synthesized. In the strictest sense, this wouldn't be a synthesis reaction because more than 1 product is formed. So, you may want to consider it more a replacement (double) reaction. The balanced reaction would look like this:

CH₃COOH(aq) + NaHCO₃(aq) ==> CH₃COONa(aq) + CO₂(g) + H₂O(l)
