Usiing the atomic weight and bringng grams to moles through dimensional analysis is the best way to convert grams of a substance to moles of a substance.
You can start by calculating CuSO4 atomic weight.
Cu 63.55
S == 32.066
O 16.00 x4 = 64.00
total: 159.616
3.4g x 1mol/ 159.616 g grams cancel grams top to bottom and you have moles in the numerator and at:
0.0213 moles or if 2 sig figs 0.021 moles
