Tin metal = Sn
Nitric acid = HNO3
The reaction will be between Sn2+ + MnO4- in an acid (HNO3) environment.
Sn2+ ==> Sn4+ + 2e- oxidation half reaction
MnO4- ==> Mn2+ reduction half reaction
Sn2+ ==> Sn4+ + 2e- ... multiply by 5 to equalize electrons
MnO4- + 8H+ 5e- ==> Mn2+ + 4H2O ... multiply by 2 to equalize electrons
5Sn2+ + 2MnO4- + 16H+ + 10e- ==> 5Sn4+ + 2Mn2+ + 8H2O balanced redox for mass and charge
