a) F- + H2O >>>>> HF + OH-
The F- ion is a weak base.
In this scenario the H2O acts as the acid donating a proton to the F- ion.
HF is the conjugate acid as it now has a proton H+) to donate and OH- is the conjugate base as it can can accept a proton (H+).
b) HNO3 + H2O >>>> H3O+ + NO3-
Here the HNO3 donates its proton to water forming the Hydronium ion and the polyatomic ion NO3-.
H3O+ is the conjugate acid as it can donate a proton (H+), and the NO3- is the conjugate base as it can accept a proton (H+).
