Oxidation occurs at the anode
Reduction occurs at the cathode
Standard reductions potentials are as follows:
Cu2+ + 2e- ==> Cu(s) Eº = 0.34 V ... Cathode (reduction)
Zn2+ + 2e- ==> Zn(s) Eº = -0.76 V ... Anode (oxidation)
Reaction for galvanic cell:
Cu2+ + Zn(s) ==> Zn2+ + Cu(s)
Eºcell = cathode - anode = 0.34 V - (-0.76 V) = 1.1 V
