The town of KnowWearSpatial, U.S.A. operates a rubbish waste disposal facility that is overloaded if its 4699 households discard waste with weights having a mean that exceeds 26.7 lb/wk. For many different weeks, it is found that the samples of 4699 households have weights that are normally distributed with a mean of 26.33 lb and a standard deviation of 12.83 lb.

Using a table: cμalculate z = (x - μ)/σ You are given average, mu, and standard deviation, sigma. x is the value that you want to know the likelihood that you are over this number.

Look up in a z chart or normal distribution chart what the p is to the left of this value of x. The answer for greater than x will be 1- p.
