asked 06/26/21Solving Arithmetic and Geometric sequence
I have been working with these sequences and having trouble simply solving this equation.
How do you solve:
322.5 = 4a2 + 1/2
Thanks,
Brian

Math, microeconomics or criminal justice
322.5 = 4a2 + .5
subtract .5 from both sides to get
322 = 4a2 reverse the equality
4a2 = 322 divide both sides by 4
a2 = 322/4 = 80.5
4 goes into 320 80 times
4 goes into 2 0.5
80 plus 0.5 = 80.5 or just use a calculator. punch in 322, division and answer
the nth term = 4 times the previous term minus 1/2. 1/2 = 0.5
322.5 =4a2 - 1/2
322.5 = 4a2 - .5
322 = 4a2
4a2 = 322
4a2/4 = 322/4
a2 = 80.5

Math Made Simple: Calculus, Geometry, Algebra, and more
Given this equation, you are solving for a2. Rearrange the equation so that a2 is isolated on one side of the equation:
322.5 = 4a2 + 0.5
322 = 4a2
322/4 = a2
a2 = 80.5
It looks like the equation you are providing is after you have plugged in other variables or simplified. Additional context would be helpful, such as the original problem exactly as it is given.
