A rectangular poster is three times as high as it is wide. If it contains a picture of 125 square inches framed by a margin of 4 inches at the top and bottom and 3 inches on each side, find the width of the poster

(3W-8)(W-6) = 125

3W^2 -26W + 48 -125 = 0

3W^2 -26W -77 = 0

W = 26/6 + or - (1/6)sqr(26^2 +12(77)) = 13/3 + or - (1/6)sqr1600 = (26+40)/6 = 66/6 = 11 inches wide

H = 33 inches high

(11-6)(33-8) = 5(25) = 125

H=3W = about 6 or -43.8
