A square-prism container with a base 5 cm by 5 cm is partially filled with water.

You drop a clump of metal with a mass of 590 grams into the container and the water level rises 3 cm.

What is the density of the metal?

Volume of metal = volume of water displaced = 5 x 5 x 3 = 75 cm³

Density of metal = mass / volume = 590 / 75 = 7.87 g/cm³
