Math, microeconomics or criminal justice
the number of cards she had should be a whole number, a non negative integer and divisible evenly by 7
smallest number would be 7. she kept 2 and gave 5 away
largest number, less than one thousand, would be 994. she kept 284 and gave away 710
originally she had
7, 14, 21, 28, 35, .... or 994 cards, some integer multiple of 7
how to tell 994 is divisible by 7? use a calculator or do long division
or use the "rule of 7s" take 4 and double it, subtract 8 from 99 = 91
take 1 double it to get 2, 9-2 = 7 which is divisible by 7
if the remaining number is 7 or 0, the original number is divisible by 7
