Hi Taylor
Distance is positive.
You can calculate it or you can simply count them along the x and y axes parallel to your base, height, width or length. If you calculate the distance and its negative remember to use the Absolute Value of the negative number.
From top to bottom
Top one a Right Triangle QPR
base is 4 units across the bottom(RQ), and the height 6 units up(QP) Area= 1/2*(4*6) =24/2=12 square units where RQ =¦ -6-(-2)¦=¦-6+2¦ = ¦-4¦; 4, Absolute value of -4 since your line goes from -6 on the grid to -2
Next one down another Right Triangle
base is 6 units across the bottom (RQ), and the height 6 units up (RP) Area=1/2*(6*6)=36/2 = 18 square units
Next one down a Rectangle
Width across the bottom is 8 units (SR) and Vertical Length 3 units (RQ) Area = length*width = 8*3 = 24 square units
The Final one at the bottom; Try it
I got 9 square units
I hope this helps
