The ratio of the areas of the two similar figures is the square of the ratio of the corresponding sides.
a) So if the ratio of the sides is 3/5, the ratio of the areas is (3/5)**2 = 9/25
b) the ratio of the lengths is 8/6 = 4/3, so the ratio of the areas is (4/3)**2 = 16/9
