1.5 up by 10% = 1.65
for 2 chips that's 3.30
2 up by 5% is 2.10
3.30+2.10 = $5.40
originally they cost 2(1.5)+2 = $5
5 to 5.40 is an 8% increase
.40/5 = .08 = 8%
one went up by 10% the other by 5%, the total cost increase is somewhere between 5 and 10%. with two of the 10% and just one of the 5%, that's weighted double towards the 10%. 8 is closer to 10 than to 5. Answer of 8% looks like it's in the right range
