Slip and slide trinomials

Hi! I am doing slip and slide trinomials and do not understand how to do them. The problem says “What trinomial do you get when you multiply a times c? Type answer in the form: x^2+bx+c

the trinomial I am trying to solve is: 2x^2-x-28

What trinomial will I get when I do this form? Thank you!

x^2-x-(2*28) = x^2-x-56

Factor: (x-8/2)(x+7/2) = (x-4)(x+7/2) = (x-4)(2x+7)

2x^2 -x -28 =

(2x+7)(x-4)

If ax^2 + bx + c = 0

then x =-b/2a + or -(1/2a)sqr(b^2-4ac)

if ac is negative, then there are two real solutions ac<0 since 2(-28)<0, two real solutions are 4 and -7/2 or - 3 1/2

if ac is positive and b^2<ac, then there are two imaginary solutions

if ac is positive and b^2>ac, then there are two real solutions

if ac is positive and b^2=ac then there is just one real solution, with multiplicity 2

graph the trinomial and it never intersects the x axis if there are no real solutions

it just touches if there is one solution

it intersects twice if there are two real solutions
