Hello, Stephanie,
Slope intercept form is y = mx + b, where m is the slope and b is the y intercept (the value of y when x=0).
The slope is the rise over the run (the change in y as x is changed) The two given points can be used to calculate the slope.
(2,-8) and (-3,2)
Rise = 2-(-8) = 10
Run = -3 -2 = -5
Slope = Rise/Run = 10/-5 = -2
We thus have y = -2x + b
To find b, use one of the points and solve for b:
y = -2x + b Let's use (2,-8)
-8 = -2*2 + b
b = - 4
The equation becomes y = -2x - 4
I hope this helps,
Bob
