To find YG, apply the triangle midpoint theorem. When you draw in YG, you get triangle EYG. EY = half of XY = 12/2 == 6. Since points E and G are midpoints, the line segment EG is half of YZ; so EG = 4.5. YG is the hypotenuse of EYG, so use the Pythagorean Theorem again.
